At the time of this writing, 1:20AM Eastern time, the live score in the championship game is:
Amerie, 1 Thing / Sejal Shah 508
LCD Soundsystem, All My Friends / Kate Carmody 475
We don’t have to tell you this is CLOSE. LCD has closed the gap from halftime and seems to be making a run, and now we enter the dark hours where who knows what takes place, and then we will emerge into the daylight (or wherever you are, perhaps it is daylight there) with a different score.
I’m sending this email before bed mostly just to remind you to vote.
These essayists have both laid it out there, and each has written a Championship-Ring-Worthy essay.
Both are excellent songs.
Tastes may very as to which essay you prefer, or which song gets you moving most.
Not very many brackets had either of these in the final. As you can tell we haven’t got those all scored yet. We’ll do the top tier ones (making sure we’re not eliminating any who had a real shot at the win) this weekend if we can.
So these are probably not, for most of us, the songs we imagined facing off in the March Danceness Championship.
YET
They are the songs that have proved most worthy. Or the essays that proved most worthy. Or some other mystical combination that is impossible to specify, which is really for the best.
In true Xness fashion, both of these writers and musicians/bands are winners and should be feted as such. Both got through so much to be here, in the final!
We salute you, Kate Carmody! We salute you, LCD Soundsystem! We salute you, Sejal Shah! We salute you, Amerie!
Only you (and however many of our voters aren’t even on this list, an unknown quantity) will decide the outcome.
You have 10.5 hours to play and help crown a WORTHY champion!
It’s pretty hard for us to choose. Maybe that’s the same for you. It’s ok. Choose anyway.
